14 Marzo 1927.  Fra Riccardo Pampuri prega la sorella, suor Longina, missionaria francescana al Cairo, di fare una novena allo Spirito Santo “affinché – sono sue parole – abbia ad aprire anch a me la mente…e illuminarmi”

E’ il momento in cui va maturando la decisione ormai ineludibile di farsi religioso.

In questo tormentato lavorio della Grazia è tra fuochi incrociati:

  • Don Alesina, il parroco, è contrario al convento e cerca di dissuaderlo perché perderebbe il suo braccio destro;
  • E’ sicuro di dare un forte dispiacere alla Rita, sua sorella, che gli sta dedicando la vita;
  • Si rende conto della delusione che darà agli zii perché ormai contano su di lui come  su un figlio.

Solbiate Comasco - Fatebenefratelli Senza nome15 Giugno 1927. Solbiate Comasco è il luogo geografico dove lo Spirito lo conferma nei suoi propositi. Poche settimane trascorse in quella comunità locale, priore il Padre Ciro Pagone, gli bastano per convincerlo di aver scelto finalmente la strada giusta: frate ma degli Ospedalieri di San Giovanni di Dio, i Fatebenefratelli.  E’ una scelta ideale per lui, anche perché ormai ha acquisito una buona esperienza professionale di medico condotto e perché gia possiede il carisma del suo Fondatore.

Si è ripetuta la scena evangelica: “Maestro, dove abiti?” “Vieni a Solbiate e vedrai“.

Fra Riccardo è un San Giovanni di Dio in chiave moderna: “Più che un medico, era un’istituzione di carità – hanno testimoniato – Si vedeva che era nato per fare il prete”.

La gente semplice vede giusto: non un sacerdozio ministeriale ma “regale e profetico” . Dopo cinque secoli da quella reatà socio-ecclesiale notevolmente mutata, l’Ordine è rivisitato da Dio che manda un ragazzo fragile, malaticcio, dopo che un altro santo è passato in veste di “visitatore apostolico”: il milanese San Benedetto Menni, sacerdote e restauratore dell’Ordine soppresso in Spagna.

Morirà in esilio in Fracia, sotto la sferza delle calunnie, con la proibizione perfino di vedere le suore da lui fondate: quelle del Sacro Cuore di Gesù.

Aveva tentato di rimettere in carreggiata fraternità italiane che erano allo sbando, ripristinando la disciplina dei padri e richiamando tutti all’osservanza della Regola di Sant’Agostino: “Prima di tutto, fratelli carissimi, si ami Dio e poi il prossimo, perché questi sono i precetti principalmente dati”.

Fra Riccardo va in convento “assetato di una regola” – la stessa che tanti hanno respinto – che lo indirizzi e lo sostenga. E diventa lui stesso regola, modello, testimone  per i suoi fratelli: “Vi darò un cuore nuovo ed uno spirito nuovo di vita” (Ez 26, 36)

Nella grave crisi esistenziale che attraversa  la sua Provincia Religiosa e l’Ordine, ancora una volta il grande “escluso“è proprio colui che è stato mandato per tempo da Dio ha ripristinare la moralità. E’ un ragazzo orfano ma non per questo espulso dalla capacità propulsiva. Ancor oggi sembra diffusa la mentalità degl’anni trenta: una certa ammirazione per un bravo ragazzo medico che dà lustro all’Ordine. Ma nulla più. Non si crede che, nei tempi lunghi di Dio che richiedono la lennta maturazione  ed il travaglio delle coscienze, Riccardo sia stato mandato a questa Provincia, per questo Ordine, proprio nel secolo del suo maggior “disagio” che richiederebbe il battesimo nello Spirito, grazie al Concilio Vaticano II che lo ha implorato. “Se il chicco di frumento caduto in terra non muore, rimane solo, se invece muore, porta molto frutto” (Gv 12,24).

E’ stato mandato perché l’Ordine percorra la strada dei ripensamenti e imbocchi la via della RI-NASCITA. Ma i l’Ordine ha disposto di Costituzioni migliori delle attuali, in tutta la sua storia Ma rischia di deragliare a causa di una lettura fuorviante delle stesse.

Riccardo è l’icona di come ci si debba muovere quando si è chiamati al fronte per una guerra dagli esiti non scontati e prevedibili, ma con un solo dilemma: vincere o perdere.

E il messaggio o soffiata,  ci viene proprio da un tesyimone al proceso, già citato altre volte: il Prof Mario Meda , compagno di Riccardo all’Università e sotto le armi. Egli ha testimoniato che al fronte Erminio aveva con sé il Vangelo, le Lettere di San Paolo e l’Imitazione di Cristo, che meditava nei momenti di riposo e di silenzio.

Dall’essere al fare: cercava  con ogni mezzo di dare ai malati e ai commilitoni un messaggio diverso, quello della sua fede. Sentiva e comunicava il fascino di Dio. Ecco:

  • sentire per comunicare.
  • Il mio modo di fare e l’esperienza del mio credere.
  • Dal come concepisco la vita scatturisce il mio agire.

La mia percezione è questa: una grande Fraternità in fibrillazione e che fatica ad avvertire le parole di consolazione del suo Maestro: “Ecco, io sono con voi tutti i giorni, fino alla fine del mondo (Mt 28,20).  Sensazione diffusa è “la fine“. Ma senza il Maestro. E i “sacredoti”, che dovrebbero essere portatori della “Parola di consolazione” del nostro Dio, invece di muoversi compatti, come sostegno di un esercito allo sbando, in preda alla tentazione di battere in ritirata, sembrano ripetere il gesto riprovevole del “pasare oltre” che si legge nella parabola del samaritano.
