Il Vangelo secondo lo psicologo

VANGELO       E      PSICOLOGIA

Tante volte nella vita mi sono ritrovato a “stupirmi” di certi aspetti nella vita di Gesù o di certe frasi evangeliche che, nella situazione concreta, prendevano una pregnanza umana carica di riferimenti al vivere quotidiano, alle esperienze più riposte dell’esistenza. Per questo mi ritrovo, modestamente, ad illustrare le consonanze e i riscontri nell’esperienza di quanto di Lui si può ritrovare avanzando negli anni ad occhi aperti. Sono riscontri da credente: seguendo il mio essere credente mi sono sentito più uomo: e questo anche grazie all’approfondimento della figura di Gesù al di là degli schemi dottrinali o devozionali”. LA VITA E LA PAURA
  • “Dio non ha mandato il Figlio suo nel mondo perché condanni il mondo, ma perché il mondo per mezzo di lui venga salvato” (Gv 3, 17).
  • “Sono venuto perché abbiano la vita, e l’abbiano in sovrabbondanza” (Gv 10, 10)
Sono frasi programmatiche in cui la missione di Gesù viene messa in relazione non con il ripiegamento su se stessi ma, al contrario, con la vita. Sono frasi che mal si accordano con l’atteggiamento di molti cristiani o di tante predicazioni che sembrano ridurre il Cristianesimo a scrupoli, a sensi di colpa, a “paure di…”, in un’atmosfera autunnale di persone che vivono per non peccare e non per osare, entusiasmarsi, gioire. L’uomo ha bisogno di vita: quando tale istanza viene a mancare, allora è la malattia. Al contrario, quando si è sani, si gode il pieno possesso di quell’energia che tende istintivamente a dispiegarsi, ad espandersi, a progettarsi. Il programma di Gesù è rivolto a questa esigenza vitale e il Cristianesimo, di conseguenza, va considerato come la religione della vita. La verità è che l’uomo solo a fatica riesce ad aprirsi completamente all’invito programmatico di Cristo. L’uomo ha paura di vivere! Non è che non voglia vivere, anzi, proprio perché ci tiene a vivere ha paura di affermarsi, in una parola di osare.
Rinunciare per vivere
“Timore” sembra essere una categoria universale dell’umanità, è una dimensione umana che si accompagna al desiderio di vivere un’esperienza di precarietà che non si può non fare. Fin dal nostro primo vagito esperimentiamo che la nostra vita è appesa ad “altro che trascende” le nostre forze e la nostra volontà per soddisfare anche solo le nostre esigenze primarie. Questo “altro” può esserci, ma anche non esserci: questo induce timore per la propria vita, per la propria sopravvivenza. Forse è già qui l’inizio di quell’atteggiamento per cui siamo disposti a rinunciare a qualcosa di noi, cioè a vivere, pur di garantirci “quell’altro” che elimini il timore garantendoci la vita. È nella dimensione del “bisogno di….”, del non bastare a se stessi che rimane inalterata nel tempo. E in tale situazione la precarietà del nostro esistere induce a sacrificare, a “non vivere” parti di noi, pur di lenire l’insopportabilità del timore. Ma vi è un’altra fonte di timore, quella derivante dalla pur confusa sensazione della propria morte, quella fisica che impariamo a conoscere via via nella vita e che si annuncia nella possibilità della malattia, negli addii insospettati, nel mostrarci a volte la possibilità del semplice, naturale, nostro “non esistere”.
Ci sono tanti modi per esorcizzare simili paure: Fare come se non esistessero, ad esempio. E si assiste allora allo sciupio di energie, al programmarsi un sistema di difese (caratteriali, o economiche o di potere …), di sicurezze che reggono finché reggono…. Oppure ripiegarsi su se stessi, in una prudenza sospettosa, attenta, sempre vigile che alla fine, quasi sempre, degenera in qualche somatizzazione (ulcera, oppressione cardiaca …). O ancora, immergendosi in qualche occupazione fino a sentirsi arbitri di una situazione, insostituibili, necessari … Ma alla fine, le illusioni si qualificano come tali e ci si accorge che, per aver voluto evitare la paura della morte, già si era morti, solo che non ci si accorgeva. Non si è vissuto per paura di non vivere. E, alla radice di tutto, sta la paura di perdere la propria vita, si rinuncia, ovviamente in modo inconscio, a viverla in tutte le sue sfaccettature, assolutizzandone solo alcuni aspetti.
Il nido protettivo
È in questo contesto che l’uomo cerca elargitori di sicurezze. Si crea sistemi artificiali di vita, perché deve ammettere che da solo non basta: ecco perciò sistemi di mutuo soccorso che necessariamente si autoregolamentano. È, questa,    una necessità. Però è anche vero che questi sistemi sociali, laici o religiosi che siano, dimenticano la loro naturale origine e finiscono per viversi come assoluti. Circoscrivono l’orizzonte entro cui l’individuo deve trovare i suoi valori, delimitano l’umano, il “vivibile”, stabiliscono la morale che, da esigenza di convivenza e di sussistenza, finisce poi col diventare fonte di definizione del bene e del male, forniscono le interpretazioni da dare alla vita e gli ideali da
proporre.
Ovviamente questo non avviene sempre, ma è una tentazione o un pericolo sempre imminente, anche perché il singolo è invogliato dal timore per la propria vita a lasciarsi rinserrare come in un nido protettivo da tali sistemi.
Purtroppo il Dio mediato e divulgato da tali rinunce a vivere viene inteso, pregato, pensato predicato come il Dio della rinuncia dell’abdicazione a se stessi, come il Dio che castiga chi osa vivere in proprio, come il dio che “soffre per i nostri peccati”, intendendo spesso come peccato la trasgressione alle regole del sistema o a quanto ad esso non si accorda. Il Dio pensato dalla situazione di rinuncia a vivere è un Dio meschino, vendicativo, a volte quasi un antagonista dell’uomo che pensa con la sua testa.
E il fedele di questo Dio è un uomo pauroso, tutto preso dai suoi falsi problemi, dai suoi patemi per cose inconsistenti, avulso e tagliato fuori dall’andare dei tempi in cui vive, pauroso di tutto e, paradossalmente infido, pettegolo o rinunciatario. Oppure, quando si presenta bene è certamente ben intenzionato ma incapace di dare risposte pronte ed inventive, perché “prima” deve pur sempre… consultare i suoi superiori, cioè gli schematismi entro cui rinserra la sua vita.
Il Dio annunciato da Gesù
Questo non è il Dio annunciato da Gesù e questa fine non è quella che Cristo destina ai suoi fedeli. Egli non è venuto al mondo per condannare il mondo, ma perché gli uomini abbiano la vita. Altrove grida “Il Regno dei Cieli si acquista con la forza” (Mt 11, 12). Il messaggio di Gesù non è per l’anchilosamento della vita, per la mutilazione esperienziale, per l’avvilimento della creatività. Esso è per la vita, è per l’allargamento degli orizzonti vitali che possono essere invece ristretti dal timore di vivere. Questo ovviamente non vuol dire che il suo messaggio sia avulso dalla realtà umana o che sia un’utopia: esso è sempre ben calato nella realtà umana fatta di concretezza spesso mutilante e mortificante.
LA LEGGE DELLA VITA
“Chi ama la propria vita la perderà e chi odia la sua vita in questo mondo, la salverà per la vita eterna” (Gv 12, 25)Questa frase nel Vangelo viene quasi sempre interpretata in chiave ascetica, di rinuncia alla propria vita, mentre comprende pure un grande messaggio alla vita in generale. È lo scandalo della continua sequenza morte e vita tra di loro ontrapposte
eppure tra di loro arricchentesi. È lo scandalo di dover abbandonare per trovare, di dover rinunciare per riavere e riavere comunque sempre in forme diverse anche se migliorate. “Chi ama la propria vita la perderà e chi odia la sua vita in questo mondo, la salverà per la vita eterna” (Gv 12, 25)
Ci sono molti esempi, nell’evoluzione di ogni individuo, in cui è necessario “rinunciare” alla propria vita per “salvarla”, cioè per poterla evolvere. L’inizio di tali esemplificazioni risale davvero ai primi anni di vita. Lasciando da parte il consueto (ma realissimo) riferimento al taglio del cordone ombelicale, perché il figlio possa esistere davvero come tale, si ricordi il dilemma esistenziale che il bambino, ancora in braccio alla mamma, deve superare per iniziare a camminare. Per lui si tratta di lasciare il sicuro per l’incerto, il camminare, il correre lontano dalla madre. Dapprima egli dà la manina alla mamma che lo incoraggia; poi fa i primi abbozzi di
passetti barcollanti. Comunque, alla fine, deve muovere da solo i primi passi, con tutti i pericoli che il fatto comporta: la perdita dell’oggetto amato, l’eventuale caduta, l’eventuale farsi male, l’insicurezza derivante dalle sue deboli forze e dall’impaccio ad affrontare posizioni prima sconosciute. Solo se si decide a staccarsi dal porto sicuro rappresentato dalla mamma, riscoprirà allora nuove possibilità di vita, nuove forme di piacere. Se non riesce a farlo, allora sono i primi preoccupati sguardi d’ansia della madre e dei parenti, poi le insistenze sempre più ansiose.
La conseguenza spesso è l’aumento di paura, di ansia, l’abbarbicarsi alle braccia di una mamma sempre più sconsolata. Al contrario, come quasi sempre avviene, egli può gustare il sapore di correre incontro alla madre, godere del tacito ineffabile assenso-conferma, delle dolcissime grida d’approvazioneesultanza dei suoi; egli scopre una possibilità nuova, più adulta e matura, in cui l’amore è una scelta non un’esigenza. Gettandosi fiducioso verso la vita e rischiando, egli conserva tutto ciò che temeva di perdere. Al contrario, amando troppo la propria vita, egli teme il rischio, per la paura di perdere ciò che ama e che, in effetti, fatalmente, finisce per perdere. Molto spesso nella pratica psicoterapeutica, si assiste impotenti a questo dilemma che si risolve a scapito dell’interessato e, spesso, in maniera irreversibile. Si presentano anche sintomi tra i più vari: dolori da tutte le parti, una stanchezza che prostra, e, soprattutto una rabbia che non
si sa come controllare e che viene lenita solo dalla depressione e da un ritornello che alla fine non viene più creduto: “non so davvero come faccio ad andare avanti … !!!”.
Chi ama la propria vita la perderà. È legge della vita che essa non possa conservarsi tal quale ma venga, di volta in volta, riacquistata in forme diverse, magari arricchite, attraverso il rischio del certo, della vita stessa. Ma chi odia la propria vita, la ritroverà. “Disse ad un altro: Seguimi…! Ed egli rispose: Signore, permettimi prima di andare a seppellire mio padre. Ma Gesù gli disse: Lascia che i morti seppelliscano i loro morti” (Lc 9, 59-60) “Chiunque pone mano all’aratro e si volta indietro, non è adatto al Regno dei Cieli” (Lc 9, 62). Ma l’esito di tale non pensare alla vita e slanciarsi verso di essa abbandonando quanto si ha è una nuova possibilità di vita, un suo più ricco articolarsi, un riprendere quanto si è lasciato da posizioni nuove, con ricchezze esistenziali nuove. L’adolescente straziato tra il suo sostare in comportamenti e anfratti infantili da un lato e l’impellente spinta all’indipendenza, a dover fare a meno dei suoi, ad ergersi di fronte alla vita come io autonomo, ritrova infine i genitori, ma da una posizione di forza e di autonomia che permette di stabilire con loro un’amicizia alla pari, una consapevolezza tutta nuova.
Chi ama troppo la propria vita intesa nella situazione attuale, non seguita nella sua evoluzione; chi non volta le spalle, non dimentica, non relativizza quanto ha “in vista di…” va fatalmente incontro alla ripetizione che si perde a poco a poco nella propria autoestinzione. Chi volta le spalle a quanto ha, è perché è abbacinato dal fascino di quanto gli sta davanti, perché è attirato dalla vita ad andare oltre.
IL TESORO NASCOSTO
La logica dell’amore richiede vitalità, coinvolgimento, rischio. Gesù invita a vivere con passione, a lasciare tutto per appropriarsi del tesoro nascosto. I suoi discorsi sono diversi dai nostri, i suoi progetti imprudenti. C’è invece chi preferisce camminare sui bordi della vita, negandosi entusiasmi e slanci. È la paura di darsi, di perdere quello che si possiede in vista di un bene ancora ignoto. E in questo timore si vive una vita tarpata, a metà.
“La donna quando dà alla luce, è nel dolore perché è giunta la sua ora; ma quando il bambino è nato, non ricorda più l’angoscia, per la gioia che è venuto al mondo un uomo” (Gv. 16, 21). In questa frase, al di là del preciso significato con cui viene usata nel Vangelo, è espressa nella forma più pregnante la legge evolutiva della vita: per vivere è necessario slanciarsi in avanti affascinati da qualcosa che ci fa voltare le spalle a quanto già si possiede. Nel momento in cui ci si slancia, si lascia il certo per l’incerto, ma solo se lo si fa si ha poi alla fine la possibilità di riavere tutta la propria vita, in forme diverse e più adulte, adeguate alle stagioni della vita stessa. Ciò che dà questo slancio, ciò che permette di non intristire all’ombra del proprio passato è il “valore”, quanto noi stimiamo come motivo irrinunciabile e che ci attira totalmente come una realtà che dà scopo alla nostra vita
Ovviamente i valori possono essere tanti e le loro caratteristiche possono quindi variare. Ma nello spirito evangelico la scoperta del valore è condizionata dalla capacità stessa di gustare il bene in se stesso, senza strumentalizzarlo o svilirlo in orizzonti precostituiti. Nella frase sopraccitata si dice che la donna “non ricorda più l’angoscia per la gioia che è venuto al mondo un uomo”: l’attenzione è tutta su quel fatto che “è venuto al mondo un uomo”. Non vengono suggeriti altri motivi che potrebbero dar gioia, come il fatto di aver donato un figlio all’amato marito, oppure che un giorno, il figlio si prenderà cura di lei, oppure che è un bel figlio …. tutti motivi di per sé comprensibili e che certo possono apportare una qualche gioia. Ma il Valore individuato da Gesù va oltre queste considerazioni contingenti e che, a ben vedere, finiscono sempre per essere ancora l’espressione (anche se camuffata) della paura di perdere la propria vita.
Esso si accentra tutto sul fatto in sé inteso nel suo significato puro senza contaminazioni egocentriche, sul fatto che un uomo nuovo è venuto al mondo. La gioia scaturisce dalla consapevolezza, magari tinta di stupore che piega alla commozione, della meraviglia costituita da tale evento. Il Valore esiste di per sé e il soggetto vi si apre; per fare questo
deve essere ricco nel suo interno, possedere “capacità di sintonizzarsi con…”, di guardare, di lasciarsi contagiare, di entusiasmarsi. E questo presuppone a sua volta che egli sia libero da nostalgie recalcitranti che lo tengono legato ad un passato ormai morto, ma che non vuole riconoscersi come tale; libero “di farsi”, seguendo il richiamo del nuovo, di quanto gli appare appunto come valore.
Il valore scoperto nella realtà
Tale valore inteso nella sua entità autonoma, nella sua carica di ideale, non è presentato da Gesù come sganciato dalla concretezza e dai contesti esistenziali. Non è la “pura idea” contemplata in maniera isolata dal concreto. Quell’uomo che viene al mondo è “un” uomo, di “quella” madre, di “quel” padre, che l’aspettano in un mondo ed in una cultura tutta particolare. La madre evangelica è nella gioia e sonda tutto il fascino del suo significato e la meraviglia del suo accadere, ma -contemporaneamente- (e le due cose non sono in contraddizione) essa è la madre di “quell’uomo”: lei incontra il valore in sé dell’uomo nella concretezza di suo figlio, essere umano ben determinato. È qui che appare una peculiarità del messaggio di Cristo: l’uomo scopre il valore nella realtà a cui deve rimanere fedele. Ed è in questa complessità semplice che si può intravedere un’intuizione che può davvero già essere una lezione di vita quotidiana.
Ben diversa è la condizione di coloro che hanno paura di vivere perché troppo legate ad un passato da cui temono di distaccarsi; uomini e donne che, per difendersi dalla vita che comunque avanza e li spiazza inesorabilmente o per comprensibile reazione alla loro automutilazione, piegano alla malattia fisica dietro la quale sta una causa di chiara origine psichica. Ebbene, quasi sempre si può constatare presso queste persone l’incapacità di entusiasmarsi veramente, di prendere parte in maniera disinteressata e spensierata a quanto succede loro di incontrare. Non hanno curiosità, né gusto alle cose: prima o poi se lo impediscono con qualche nuovo sintomo, comunque attraverso i morsi di un’angoscia straripante. A loro sembra impedita proprio la possibilità di intrattenersi con il Valore in sé
o di viverlo come tale. Spesso, quando la vita li pone poi comunque in prima fila, essi apparentemente fanno ciò che devono fare, ma senza creatività, senza spinta, senza capacità di inventare: ripetono quello che inconsciamente continuano a vivere come il compito lasciato loro dai genitori.
Diversamente vive invece la persona che va incontro alla sua realtà concreta, appassionandosi ad essa per ciò che offre; trova il suo senso di vivere immergendosi in quanto ha scoperto di bello e di affascinante, dimentico di quanto lascia o comunque consapevole che non può non lasciarlo. È quanto viene espresso dal Vangelo quando dice “Il Regno dei Cieli è simile ad un tesoro nascosto in un campo; l’uomo che lo ha scoperto,
lo nasconde di nuovo e, pieno di gioia, va, vende quanto possiede e compra quel campo” (Mt. 13, 44). È evidente qui, nonostante la diversità di contesti, la similitudine con quanto andiamo dicendo: si noti quel “pieno di gioia”, che ricorda chiaramente la donna che “è nella gioia perché un uomo è venuto al mondo”; si noti che quell’uomo che ha trovato il tesoro nascosto, non ha dubbi a vendere tutto ciò che possiede (magari contro il buon senso comune), per entrare in possesso di quello che considera il suo tesoro.
Il messaggio di Gesù è per la passione, il coinvolgimento totale, l’entusiasmo di vivere. È questa la logica dell’amore, della vitalità, dell’istinto: realtà che vengono prima (non in contrasto o contro) della ragione, della saggezza, della prudenza, e queste virtù dovranno essere giudicate e intese a partire da “quella” logica, non viceversa.
